Bomet Governor Hon Dr Joyce Laboso has officially inaugurated the Bomet County transport and safety committee. The committee which will be chaired by Roads and Public Works CEC Eng Philip Sowek will be mandated to oversee the management and regulation of road transport system by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and prepare audit reports on safety, reliability and efficiency of the road transport system in the county. The committee comprises of County Commissioner, County Commander, the County Director of Health, Association of Public Transport Operators nominee, NTSA, and representatives from women, PWDs, KENHA and KURA. Deputy Governor Dr Hillary Barchok, County Secretary Evalyn Rono, NTSA County Road Safety Director Samuel Musumba, and Motorcycle Riding Director Aggrey Vunyoli. Meanwhile, the county government is set to enroll 1,000 boda boda operators annually across the county for training on road safety rules and regulations. 40 boda boda operators from each ward will be selected, trained and issued with driving licenses in a training which will take two months. Bomet county government will also assist the operators in registering a Sacco as a way of empowering them economically.
